BLACKWOOD, CALIFORNIA--

Blackwood Academy. Just your regular, average, everyday school, right? Sure. The students take any class any other student would, the school is dominated and divided by different social groups, the students all drink underage and go out on the weekends and have a good time they way they would anywhere else. Sure, they go to school in a building almost 140 years old, but everything has been updated and modernized for convenience. The campus is beautiful and filled with lots of little nooks and crannies that make a prefect place to curl up with a book. There are huge fireplaces in some of the main building areas, which are often lit and make great places to hang out with your friends. Just a picture perfect place with picture perfect views and picture perfect people. Right? Wrong.

Curl up and escape to neverland || Rayne
« Thread Started on Jan 11, 2008, 5:17am »

There was a fumbling at the door and then it opened, revealing a somewhat small but cozy room. "Well, here we are." Dylan said. "pick a seat, you can have any one in the theater!" he announced, gesturing toward the small couch by the wall. He flipped on the TV and was instantly greeted with somewhat loud music, until he popped "Kill Bill: Volume 2" out of the DVD player. He ran a finger through the self on his bookcase designated for DVDs before landing on "Good Luck Chuck." It was one of those movies he didn't buy for himself, but so he could watch it with someone else. He popped it in and flicked off half of the lights while turning off his cell phone. Grabbing a throw blanket, he returned to the couch as the movie started. The last time he had been on the couch with Rayne had been under very different terms. He had so desperately wished he could have had that closeness without any tragedy or tears. Maybe he was getting his wish.

Rayne stood at the door the the small room, taking in the secenry before smiling at Dylan. "Why thank you," she teased. "And what a large theater it is." Rayne smiled, and pushed at his arm a little, feeling happier than she had before. She crossed the small room and settled herself on the couch, wondering what movie he was putting on. The noise of the sound system startled her a little, and she caught a glimpse of Kill Bill, a movie she had tried very hard to never watch. Thankfully, he pulled it out of the DVD player and put something else in instead. The lights flicked off and Dylan found a spot next to her on the couch. Immediately, Rayne's head found his shoulder and just kind of rested there, comfortable and safe. If only it could've been Dylan who'd asked her out in the first place, and saved her all this drama. Her hand found her stomach and rested there, content with herself and with everything as the movie began. Sure, the position she was in right now (figuratively, not literally) was not her ideal one, but it was better than nothing- being here with Dylan as his friend was better than being along, and much better than being with Mason. She appreciated the fact that they could curl up on the couch with no pressure or expectations. She nuzzled her head in a little closer as the main titles flashed on the screen, pulling her body closer to his.

He draped the blanket over them and instantly felt her head burrow into his chest. There were no tears or no one out to get her this time, she just felt... safe. Dylan did too. He wouldn't change anything about this moment if he could. He had always felt like no matter how close he was with someone,he put up a front, wore a mask. He used slightly different words, talked differently, all these little mannerisms he did to try to be more compatible with that person. Right now, he did not feel any of that, though. For the first time in his life, he could fully relax. Something made him feel sure that Rayne felt the same way, whether it was her head against his chest or the gentle smile on her face. He closed his eyes and savored every bit of this experience; the experience of being able to open up to someone so fully. I guess this meant that they would make a good couple, but he didn't want to sully what they had with that. Here in Blackwood at least, your girlfriend was the girl who you made out with for at least 90% of the movie in the theater. She was the girl you satisfied your hormones with without her being called a slut. She was the "ho" in "bros before ho's." He didn't want that. He didn't need all that physical junk; any two human beings could do that. What they had was different; it was special. He didn't need the title, and he definitely didn't need to feel her body or anything. Well, maybe a kiss would be nice... Not today, but someday soon...

The movie played, a flickering light that fell over their faces and Rayne snuggled ever closer and further under the blanket, not trying to hide herself, but simply more interesting in the warmth and comfort she felt exactly where she was. Could she really have this? Could Rayne, whom many would consider a teenage whore if they knew what was really going on in her life, have this semblance of a normal relationship? Sure, she and Dylan were not dating, and it was really silly to think he might want to be with her after knowing what had gone on in her life, but she'd been open and honest with him and he still liked her, enough to be here right now. Dylan didn't come across as fake, and Rayne didn't feel fake when she was with him. Maybe he actually liked her, actually cared about her, wanted to be there for her when others wouldn't.

Not that any of that mattered. She couldn't subject Dylan to what she knew life would bring for him with her- for anyone with her, really. Soon, she would be a teenage mother. Sure, she had nearly 33 weeks left to go, but it was still soon enough that anything long term would result in them dating a teenage mother. Worse then that, it wouldn't even be their child. Getting back with Mason was absolutely not a choice, so whomever she dated would never be the baby's true father. Rayne didn't mind, but it was silly to think that whomever she started dating wouldn't. Thankfully for Rayne, Dylan liking her was totally out of the question, or else she'd probably have to leave for his own good. As it was, she just moved herself a little bit closer, hoping maybe he'd put his arm around her and let her feel something that wasn't for a little while.

The movie was winding down to an unfortunately early end. It had been okay, but it wouldn't matter if it hadn't been. This had been such a great escape for both of them from the lives they normally faced. For the last hour and a half, this couch had been part of an entirely separate world, one that enveloped them, protected and isolated them from everything else. It was a very strange feeling, but one that he was certain was good. He reached for the remote and turned the volume down. He wasn't going to let that ending music make him leave this couch right now, no matter how determined it was to do so.

He looked down and realized she had fallen asleep, the precious angel. She really did look like an angel too. He sat there for a while, looking at her. She was breathing so peacefully now. He brushed the hair out of her face and lightly traced her cheekbone with his hand. She quietly stirred as she slowly drifted back into consciousness. "Rayne?" She was still slowly ascending to a state of consciousness, still floating upwards from a beautiful dream, having not yet broken the surface of reality. "You are the most beautiful person in this world. Don't let yourself ever forget that." She wasn't fully awake yet, but a part of her still heard it, and that's what mattered.

She sat up and stretched, yawning lightly. He didn't know why girl's sometimes felt gross when waking up; he thought they looked adorable. It was like seeing a baby foal take its first steps as it slowly changed from a state of complete vulnerability and innocence to the "normal" state they had to be in while in the world. "This was great," he said, giving her a nice long hug. After their embrace ended, he felt a certain weight on his shoulders, as if his body had just realized that soon it had to return to the toils of the real world.

That place between sleeping and wakefulness was the the most comfortable one in the world. It was this feeling of being so pleasant and comfortable that you could just stay there forever and never leave that state. The idea of moving into full consciousness was never welcomed, but the idea of going back to sleep was. But Rayne couldn't continue to sleep while Dylan was awake. She'd fallen asleep at some point in the middle of the movie, and she didn't really know how it ended, but wasn't sure she cared. It hadn't been that great of a movie anyway. But Dane Cook was funny, and Jessica Alba was pretty, and from what she had seen it had been cute, but certainly not an award winner. Unless there was an award for most penguin involvement in a movie, ever. Rayne smiled despite the waking fog, trying to get herself ready to face the rest of the day. It had been shitty up until now, and it was hard to think it would be much better.

Dylan was speaking- saying her name, moving her hair, touching her face. Her skin felt like it warmed up at his touch, and her little half grin widened He said something about- oh, she didn't know, but it felt goof to hear, whatever it was. She nuzzled her head for one more second before picking it up and stretching, craning her neck this way and that to release the stiffness. Even just the tiny amount of weight at Rayne's midsection seemed to put an extra strain on her back, her joints always seemed stiffer after sleeping. She stretched her arms, languidly, almost like a cat after sleeping in the sun. She then looked over at Dylan, who hugged her. "Yeah," she nodded into his shoulder, smiling. "You mean its over?" she asked lightly, pulling back and looking at him. She didn't want to go home to her empty dorm room and be alone with herself yet. She didn't want to be alone yet.

"You mean it's over?" The words sent a tiny pang of sadness through his gut. He really didn't want her to leave, either. He knew they couldn't stay here much longer without getting in trouble; pretty soon the faculty would be making their rounds to enforce the "no girls allowed" policy. Stupid policy. What was this, a tree-house? Too bad life always wasn't as simple as when on that couch. There was no way they could stay here, but one look at those doe eyes convinced him that there had to be something else they could do.

An idea popped in his head, and he wasn't sure exactly why. Maybe because it was the only other time at Blackwood that he had felt the tranquility that he did now. Whatever the reason, he decided to try it, despite it being pretty unconventional. "We can't stay here much longer, but follow me. I want to show you something." He took her by the hand and left the room, grabbing something on his way out.
